Martha Marion

Tutor at Wes Carroll Tutoring & Coaching

Martha Marion, a Northwestern-trained educator and licensed therapist, brings over twenty years of tutoring experience and a rare clinical depth to her work with students navigating both academic and emotional challenges.

Martha’s background spans content tutoring, writing coaching, and psychoemotional support, including executive function, test anxiety, ADHD, and dyslexia. That breadth isn’t accidental. She’s spent her career learning that what shows up on a test or in a grade is often just the surface, and that real progress means understanding the whole student. Her approach is collaborative, genuinely curious, and grounded in the belief that challenges aren’t flaws to fix — they’re variables to understand.

Teaching Philosophy

High-potential students are often the last ones anyone worries about — including themselves. Martha knows better. Perfectionism, shame when things stop coming easily, anxiety, neurodiversity: these are common, real, and workable. She approaches every student like a good scientist, looking for what’s actually driving the results before deciding what to do about them.

Personal Approach

Martha’s sessions are co-created. Your student’s goals, personality, and work style shape how they get there, because there’s no single path that works for everyone. She’s also known for gamifying the work — if tutoring can be genuinely engaging, why wouldn’t you make it engaging? Outside the classroom, Martha is a published writer, voice actor, and performance artist, which makes her a natural fit for students with creative or artistic leanings.

Areas of Expertise
  • Standardized Testing: SAT, ACT, ISEE
  • Subjects: APUSH, AP Language, AP European History, Math through Algebra II, Writing

Academic Achievements

Martha earned her B.S. magna cum laude from Northwestern University before going on to complete her M.A. in Counseling Psychology at the University of the West. She has since built on that foundation as a practicing Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), bringing clinical training and real therapeutic experience to her work with students.

Your pathway to success with Martha involves

Getting under the hood

Finding what’s actually driving performance, not just what’s visible on the surface.

Curiosity, not judgement

Treating challenges as data, not defects.

Your student in the driver’s seat

Building a process that fits who they are, not a template.
